STAR-THERM® - CONDUCTIVE | FLAMEPROTECTED COMPOUNDS |
 |
 |
 |
 |
STAR-THERM® is our range of conductive and flame retardent high peformance thermoplastics and comprises three product groups: |
 |
STAR-THERM® W - thermally conductive high performance compounds |
STAR-THERM® E - electrically conductive high performance compounds |
STAR-THERM® F - high performance flame retardant compounds |
 |
The STAR-THERM® W - range encompasses our high strength thermally
conductive compounds, which are used for electronic and applications and for
automotive electronics. The ever increasing miniaturization of electronic
components results in higher temperatures, which causes failure rates to
increase dramatically. The failure rate can be reduced by applying thermally
conductive, electrically insulative materials: STAR-THERM® W.
Application areas for STAR-THERM® W are for example bobbins, relais, toroidal
transformers, steppermotors, heat sinks or light fittings.
The unique STAR-THERM®-technology offers significant advantages over the
more traditional solutions:
Far higher strength, which allows a design with reduced wall thickness. Thinner
wall sections result in lower raw material costs as well as better thermal
conductivity of the entire system.
More homogeneous thermal conductivity; traditional solutions show a far greater
difference between flow direction and perpendicular to the flow direction.

STAR-THERM® E - is our range of electrically conductive thermoplastics, which
was developed for application areas where electro static discharge causes
problems. By using specific electrically conductive additives, the STAR-THERM®
E - range encompasses products with a defined electrical conductivity, which
avoids the buildup of electro static charges. The products are divided into three
conductivity classes:
anti static
statically conductive
and conductive
109-1011 Ohm/sq: anti static - the material acts as an electrical insulator, but the
buildup of electro static charge through friction with another insulator is avoided.
STAR-THERM® E - Products are based on non migrating additives and are
permanently anti static: the anti static properties do not deteriorate over time.
These products remain anti static, even under low humidity conditions.
106-109 Ohm/sq: electrically dissipative - when parts made in these products
come into contact with an electro statically charged body, the charge is bled off
gradually. There is no discharge through a spark or an arc. These types of
products are used for the manufacture of electronic components.
101-105 Ohm/sq: electrically conductive - these products are the most commonly
used, amongst others for office equipment, textile machines, medical application
or mining equipment. |
 |
STAR-THERM® F - flame retardant thermoplastics are becoming increasingly
important. New laws and standards demand a higher level of flame retardency
coupled reduced environmentally dangerous waste. The STAR-THERM® F-range
comprises halogen- and phosphorous free flame retardant thermoplastics. These
compounds meet various test standards, like UL V0, GWIT or GWFI, without the
use of environmentally dangerous additives. |
